MaNOj kamps (Sri Lanka, 1988) began his musical training with Sureka Amerasinghe, in Colombo. He has been a student at the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague since 2005, studying conducting (with Jos van Veldhoven, Jos Vermunt and Lucas Vis), composition (with Calliope Tsoupaki and Roderik de Man), and music theory (with Paul Scheepers and Diderik Wagenaar a.o.). He graduated from his choral conducting studies in June 2011 with highest honours. MaNOj is presently pursuing his orchestral conducting studies with Jac van Steen and Kenneth Montgomery at the same institute, with generous support of the Kersjes Fund for Conductors.

MaNOj has followed masterclasses with Simon Halsey (Rundfunkchor Berlin), George Hurst (Canford Summer School, Dorset) and Ragnar Rasmussen (Norway). In the past, he has assisted conductors such as Reinbert de Leeuw, Simon Halsey and Klaas Stok. He was a finalist in the composition competition of the Netherlands Radio Choir, held in 2006-2007; where he received prizes from both the chorus and the jury.

MaNOj feels at home in both early and contemporary music, and he has a broad repertoire that encompasses composers like Bach, Vivier, Josquin and Poulenc. Due to his love for contemporary classical music, he has conducted (Dutch) premières of works by Louis Andriessen, Klaas de Vries, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Rodion Shchedrin, as well as giving first performances of new works by fellow composition students and himself. MaNOj has been appointed conductor of the ASKO|Schönberg Ensemble’s Ligeti Academy for the 2011-12 season.
